Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

We work on the design and development of Collision Avoidance Systems for Heavy Commercial Road Vehicles. The approach to the Collision Avoidance problem is divided into 2 categories: one involving the use of inexpensive solid-state Lidars and second involving V2V communication. You can read on to find out more about these projects below.

Vehicle Detection and Tracking with solid-state Lidar

The focus of this work is on developing Collision Avoidance Systems for Heavy Trucks using an inexpensive solid-state lidar sensor with low spatial resolution for sensing the environment. The challenge here is to track road vehicles with a sensor that has low spatial resolution. Detection, Data Association and Tracking algorithms that make sense out of the limited data provided by the sensor are being developed as a part of this work. Further, Collision Avoidance Systems that can handle the unique dynamic aspects of heavy trucks will be developed.

This work could potentially help to accelerate the commercialization of Collision Avoidance Systems for heavy trucks by enabling the use of inexpensive sensors. This can be beneficial especially for cost-sensitive Indian markets.
